SARU (South African Rugby Union) on Tuesday, 4 February 2020 released the venues for the Springboks 2020 home tests, with Bloemfontein being again snubbed the chance to experience the Springboks.
During the Rugby World Cup winning trophy tour the Springboks did not visit the Free State. That had the Mangaung Municipality, The Free State Rugby Union and public up in arms. The latest snub comes after the Free State Rugby Union made it known that it was not pleased by the Books skipping their province. They would have expected to be compensated by being given one test but that has not been the case.
Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Mbombela all got the nod ahead of the City of Roses.
"We only have six home Tests a year and the reality is that not all the major stadiums will be able to host the Boks every season. There are many factors to consider when deciding on Test hosts; we are in constant discussions about our home Tests with our provinces and we hope to return to Bloemfontein again soon," said a SA Rugby Spokesperson.
